The story behind West Beach

I painted West Beach after a solo trip to Indiana Dunes that changed everything. It was September, drizzling, windy, and the beach was completely empty. The waves were loud but somehow calming. I sat on the sand, meditated, and in that stillness, I made a promise to myself: I would stop waiting and start building the life I actually wanted. No matter the outcome, I had to try. 

That evening I went straight to my studio and painted what I saw as I made that promise: the waves. I hung it in my bedroom so it would be the first thing I saw every morning until this business was born. The original painting is currently at The 1868 Busey Bank Exhibition.

The artwork on this tag is reproduced directly from that painting, adjusted to work at this size.

Each tag features artwork from an original painting by Clara de la Fuente, a Spanish artist based in Illinois.

Clara has sold over 500 original artworks and products through in-person exhibitions since 2021. Every tag design starts as a real painting before being carefully reproduced at this scale.

Made by hand, not by algorithm

Hi! I’m Clara. I’m a Spanish artist living in Illinois, and I’ve been selling my art at local markets since 2021.

My paintings have been displayed at Busey Bank and featured in local and national press. Over 500 customers have taken a piece of my work home with them.

I created these tags because I wanted something for my own luggage that wasn’t disposable or ugly. Something that felt good in your hand, stayed on your bag, and had a little meaning behind it.
