Sunset Walk at Meadowbrook Park

This painting is inspired by a fall evening in 2023 at Meadowbrook Park in Urbana, IL. That day, I desperately needed a break. A moment to unpack after two stressful days with a persistent thought looping through my mind.

I walked for a bit before sitting down to appreciate the beautiful sunset over the prairie. The colors and shapes of the clouds, the sunlight, and the shadows created a very mindful moment. 

At that moment, I allowed my recurring thought to come back to finally confront it. I had made my decision. There’s nothing as freeing as making a choice, even if, in hindsight, it wasn’t the right one.

When painting this piece, I intensified the pinks into reds and softened the blues into darker shades to fully express those intense feelings from that day.
