Clara de la Fuente at art market with prints

I got interviewed by Norden German Design Studio in Urbana, IL prior the All Together Market. Glad to share with you here! Read on!

PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF
My name is Clara de la Fuente and I am a fine painter and business owner of Clara de la Fuente Artist. I came from Spain to CU almost 10 years ago and fell in love with the community. At this point I consider myself 'a townie with an accent'.

I started painting in 2017 and did my first art show in 2019 in Quality as part of the Boneyard Arts Festival and the 1868 Collection by Busey Bank

WHAT DO YOU DO?
I create expressionist landscapes with watercolor and acrylics. Color, nature and powerful skies are the main pillars of my work. I combine my travel inspiration with color theory to evoke the joy of adventure, and the desire of surrounding oneself in nature.
I sell original artwork in watercolor and acrylic and high quality reproductions of my artwork in different sizes but also small items like postcards and cards.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING RIGHT NOW (FROM ALL THE THINGS YOU MAKE)?
Watercolor was my first medium but I transitioned pretty fast to acrylic. Early this year I started painting in watercolor again. Exploring the watercolor medium and creating the best palettes for my landscapes is my current obsession. Also painting clouds has always been my favorite thing.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT CHAMPAIGN-URBANA?
In some ways it has the vibe of a big city but with all the advantages of a small town.

For example: the art community is absolutely amazing. The art programs offered by both cities, the artist gatherings, the events, the engagement from the community... It's a great community to be an artist, and... an art lover!!

Also all the unique spots in town to chill and/or hang out with friends. From the cute cafes like The Lit, Art Mart to Quality or Rose Bowl for the night. CU has a lot to offer!

WHAT IS A PARTICULARLY POPULAR/SOUGHT AFTER ITEM YOU MAKE?
One of my all time best sellers is "The Kiss" print. This painting represents the essence of romance using two elements: the contrast of cold and warm colors of the two characters, and the blending of the two bodies in a kiss with fluid-acrylics.

The close up view of this painting is incredible, and the best part is that the cells and other details were created naturally as the paint colors run into each other. The 8x8in prints are one of the first items that are sold out.

CAN YOU DESCRIBE YOUR MOTIVATION FOR YOUR CREATIVE WORK?
Our environment affects our emotions and well-being. I'm a firm believer that our homes should feel like a sanctuary, and investing in our homes is investing in our health.

My mission is to help art lovers select art that completes their space and talks about who they are. I am a big traveler and adventurous person, and someone who enjoys spending time in nature. My art connects with others through those feelings and helps bring a little of them into their urban homes.

WHAT MADE YOU APPLY TO ‘ALL TOGETHER NOW CU’?
I love markets because you can connect with the public, answer their questions and show them your work in a casual setting. Markets also make art very approachable to people.

I specifically enjoy working with All Together Now as they are also local and experienced so they understand how to create a memorable experience for the CU community.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT FALL?
Of course the leaves changing colors! My paintings are all about the use of color and nature. Fall is the perfect time for me to gather inspiration.
